KESHINRO ADVOCATES SCHOOL SAFETY EDUCATION IN LAGOS

The State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC ), Lagos State Command, Mr Adedotun Keshinro has once again affirmed, his renewed, commitment towards ensuring the security and safety of school children and the staff in all the one thousand and twenty four ( 1,024 ) public primary schools and the over three hundred senior and junior secondary schools in the state.

The Lagos State Commandant, Mr Adedotun Keshinro disclosed, the above to members of the fourth estate of the realm, when he was ably, represented, by Superintendent of Corps Oluwaseun Abolurin, the Command’s Public Relations Officer ( PRO ), at the Two – Day Engagement with Sector Leaders in Lagos state for Developing Costed Action Plan on Safety and Security of Schools.

The PRO said that we need concerted efforts with the Government, Security Agencies, Parents, Community Leaders and all relevant stakeholders to stamp out bullying, cultism, abuse and misuse of drugs, violent attacks and negative social media influences from the schools in Lagos state.

The training was organized, by the West Africa Network For Peace Building ( WANEP – Nigeria ) in collaboration with the United Nations Democracy Fund ( UNDEF ) and Women Advocates Research & Documentation Centre ( WARDC ).

The training was facilitated by a renowned consultant, Professor Olayode Kehinde, from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile – Ife, Osun State. The Professor took the participants through eighteen ( 18 ) Thematic Analysis across various sectors such as; Education, Security and Health et ce tera.

The event also captured a lot situation analyses for a Costed Action Plan on day one ( 1 ) while on day two ( 2 ) , participants were taken through a prepared template , for the developing of a Costed Action Plan. The participants also broke into four ( 4 ) different groups and presented, their individual Costed Action Plans worked on by various groups at the training.

Present at the training were relevant stakeholders from various walks of life such as; the representative of the State Universal Basic Education Board, the Nigeria Police Force represented, by Chief Superintendent of Police Opadola Elizabeth, Divisional Police Officer, Ojodu Division, Lagos State Police Command, Traditional Institution, Community Development Associations, Non Governmental Organizations, Human Rights Commission, Media organizations and many more.

The training begun on Wednesday, 26th and ended, yesterday, Thursday, 27th March, 2025. It was held at the Women Advocates Research and Development Centre , located, at Ikeja, Lagos State.
