Strengthen Partnership to Enhance Estate Security
We Are Ready to Work with the Ministry of Housing to Protect Estates and Residents — Keshinro
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, and the Lagos State Ministry of Housing have agreed to strengthen collaboration aimed at improving security across government estates and ensuring the safety of residents.
The partnership was reinforced during a courtesy visit by the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Housing, Engr. Abdulhafis Gbolahan Toriola, to the Lagos State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr Adedotun Keshinro, fnarc, at the Command Headquarters in Alausa on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
The visit aligns with the housing policy of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, which focuses on affordable housing, expansion of housing stock, and easing rental burdens on residents across the state.
Speaking during the meeting, Engr. Toriola emphasised the need for stronger security measures in government-owned estates across Lagos and called for greater collaboration with the NSCDC to safeguard residents and public infrastructure.
The Permanent Secretary also sought the Command’s support in identifying abandoned buildings scattered across the state. He noted that such structures often serve as hideouts for criminals and pose security, environmental and safety risks to surrounding communities.
Responding, Commandant Keshinro reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to partnering with the Ministry of Housing to enhance the protection of lives and property within government estates and other residential areas across the state.
He assured the Ministry of the Command’s readiness to support efforts aimed at identifying abandoned buildings and generating relevant data that would assist the government in tackling criminal activities, preventing building collapse and mitigating other potential disasters.
The Commandant further disclosed that directives had been issued to all Divisional Officers across the state to identify and document abandoned structures within their Areas of Responsibility as part of ongoing efforts to improve public safety and strengthen community security.
He reiterated that the NSCDC remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote a safer and more secure environment for all residents of Lagos State.
