The Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) will on Thursday, October 29, 2026, inaugurate its Ogun State Command, with Commander Isola Shola Dayo appointed to lead the state command in a move aimed at strengthening community based security and grassroots intelligence gathering.
The inauguration ceremony, scheduled to hold at NNPC Road, Abeokuta, Ogun State, will be presided over by the Commandant General/National Chairman of the VGN, Dr Otunba James Udoma. The event will also feature the presentation of a letter of appointment to the newly appointed state commander, alongside the formal unveiling of the organisation’s Code of Conduct and presentation of its Constitution.
The establishment of the Ogun State Command is expected to strengthen the VGN’s operational presence in the state and improve its capacity to support efforts to prevent crime, identify security threats and provide timely intelligence to relevant security agencies.
Commander Isola Shola Dayo is expected to provide leadership for the state command in accordance with the organisation’s established rules, regulations and operational guidelines. His appointment also places responsibility on him to promote discipline, accountability and effective coordination among members operating across Ogun State.
Speaking at the event, Dr Udoma is expected to emphasise the importance of community participation in tackling insecurity, noting that grassroots security organisations have a role to play in complementing the efforts of conventional security agencies through credible intelligence sharing and cooperation with relevant authorities.
The launch of the VGN Code of Conduct is expected to reinforce professional standards, discipline and responsible conduct among members. The document is intended to provide guidance on members’ behaviour, responsibilities and relationship with members of the public, while promoting respect for human rights and the rule of law.
The presentation of the VGN Constitution will further provide an institutional framework for the administration, leadership structure and activities of the organisation. It is expected to guide the state command in carrying out its responsibilities and ensure that its operations remain consistent with the principles and objectives of the VGN.
The inauguration marks another step in the organisation’s efforts to expand its presence and strengthen its contribution to national security. Under Dr Udoma’s leadership, the VGN is seeking to deepen community engagement, improve intelligence gathering and build stronger working relationships with relevant security institutions in support of a safer Ogun State and Nigeria at large.
