
The Commander Infantry Corps (CIC) Major General Abdul Khalifah Ibrahim OFR on Thursday 27 March 2025 presented cheques to the Next of Kins (NOKs) of recently deceased officers of the Infantry Corps, condoled with the NOKs.
The event which took place at the Headquarters Infantry Corps Centre (HQ ICC) was in line with the Nigerian Army Infantry Officers’ Welfare Scheme (NAIOWS) procedures.
The beneficiaries of the cheques who attended the event were the NOKs of late Lieutenant Colonel TE Alari, late Captain BN Okereke, late Lieutenant MW Aderibigbe and late Lieutenant NU Iya.
In his remarks, the CIC on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede NAM, the entire Nigerian Army officers and Infantry family especially expressed his deepest condolences to the NOKs, stating that the late officers were heroes who died while protecting the territorial integrity of our dear country and their demise would not be in vain as the security forces would continue to work hard until the desired peace and stability is achieved in our society.
Major General Ibrahim further stated that the idea of NAIOWS was to provide immediate succour to the families of the deceased Infantry officers pending when the statutory Nigerian Army benefits would be paid to the NOKs of the deceased officers.
He explained that the Scheme has three segments – the death benefit, the disability benefit and the savings benefit.
The CIC added that ideally the payment should be made within three weeks of the demise of a personnel but service exigencies and other factors such as receipt of notifications of the death could hinder the process.
Major General Ibrahim appreciated the Infantry officers for keying into the Scheme, affirming that only active subscribers would benefit from the Scheme. He advised officers who have been lukewarm to key into the scheme and pay up their dues.
According to the CIC, the COAS Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede as CIC had set up a Board to look at the workings of the NAIOWS and made recommendations which the Infantry Corps will implement soon.
He added that subsequently, cheques would be presented at the Divisional Headquarters to reduce travel time of NOKs.
The CIC commended Infantry officers for their dedication and professionalism, urging them not to lower their guards but keep working professionally until the desired end state is achieved.
The event was graced by the Commandant Warrant Officers’ Academy, Brigadier General Aminu Umar, Deputy Commandant Nigerian Army School of Infantry, Brigadier General Abubakar Bello, Chief of Staff HQ ICC Brigadier General Ayokunle Owolabi and a host of other senior officers.
