Army commander urges calm as Tiv, Fulani leaders sign peace pact in Taraba

The Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, has warned against inflammatory statements or actions capable of reigniting tensions, emphasizing that lasting peace requires collective responsibility.
The warning was on Friday dished out by General Uwa, at a conflict resolution dialogue between the Tiv and Fulani communities of Bali local government council.

Underscoring the importance of dialogue in resolving disputes, he urged leaders from both communities to embrace tolerance, forgiveness, and peaceful coexistence

“The Nigerian Army remains committed to supporting civil authorities through non-violent means, he said.

”Enduring peace can only be achieved when communities actively participate and take ownership of the peace process,” Uwa maintained.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, the Chairman of Bali council, Dauda Aboki, commended the Nigerian Army for its proactive efforts.

He pledged the cooperation of the local government and community leaders in working with security agencies to sustain peace in the area.

A highlight of the meeting was the signing of a peace pact by all participants.

The agreement outlined commitments including zero tolerance for criminal activities, respect for the rule of law, promotion of communal harmony, and the resolution of disputes through peaceful and legal means.

The dialogue session brought together political leaders, traditional rulers, youth representatives, and other stakeholders from both tribes.

Discussions were focused on identifying practical solutions to recurring security challenges affecting Bali council.
