The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has uncovered separate cases of illegal arms diversion involving some of its personnel, leading to the recovery of a stolen AK-47 rifle and two unserviceable G3 rifles allegedly removed from official custody.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, the NSCDC disclosed that a serving officer, CAII Igah Ameh James, attached to the Commandant-General’s Special Intelligence Squad, allegedly stole an AK-47 rifle and sold it for ₦700,000. The weapon was subsequently tracked and recovered through intelligence-led operations.

In a related development, investigations revealed that two unserviceable G3 rifles were allegedly removed from the armoury of the NSCDC Adamawa State Command by a former Head of Armoury, ASCI Peter Ardo. The rifles were reportedly sold to CCA Boniface B. Lawyer in violation of established regulations governing the handling and disposal of service weapons.

The Corps said the discoveries were made during ongoing internal security and disciplinary investigations aimed at safeguarding the integrity of its armouries and ensuring accountability among personnel entrusted with official firearms.

Beyond the arms recovery, the NSCDC recorded significant operational successes in the fight against human trafficking, rescuing 15 trafficked children from suspected trafficking syndicates. The victims were taken into protective custody while efforts continue to apprehend other members of the network.

The Corps also dismantled an inter-state telecommunications infrastructure vandalism syndicate operating across several states. Suspects linked to the criminal network were arrested, while stolen telecommunications equipment and other exhibits were recovered during coordinated operations.

The NSCDC reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining discipline within its ranks and combating all forms of criminality, warning that any personnel found culpable of misconduct or criminal acts would face the full weight of the law, irrespective of rank or status.
