The Edo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has commended the peaceful conduct of the August 16 by-election in Edo Central Senatorial District, attributing the success to the proactive measures put in place by its State Commandant, Agun Gbenga.
Commandant Agun led from the front, monitoring polling units across Esan South West, Esan Central, Esan North East, Esan South East, and Igueben. At each location, he interacted with voters and assured them of adequate security while emphasizing the Corps’ commitment to safeguarding lives, election materials, and the overall integrity of the process.
Working in synergy with sister security agencies, the NSCDC boss coordinated joint operations to maintain law and order, forestall disruptions, and ensure the exercise was free of intimidation. He confirmed that personnel were adequately deployed across polling units and collation centers to create a secure atmosphere for voters.
Ahead of the polls, the Corps identified several flashpoints across the Edo Central Senatorial District and Ovia Federal Constituency, mobilizing no fewer than 810 officers and men to strategic locations. The Commandant reiterated the need for professionalism, adherence to the official dress code to prevent infiltration, and strict respect for citizens’ rights throughout the exercise.
Thanks to these measures, the by-election was conducted in a calm and orderly manner, enabling citizens to freely exercise their franchise.
