The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, on 11 March 2026 received the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence Nigeria, Richard Pheelangwah, during a familiarisation visit to the Nigerian Air Force Headquarters in Abuja. Both officials reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s air power in support of ongoing national security operations.
Air Marshal Aneke noted that the engagement comes at a crucial time as the Nigerian Air Force continues to expand its operations across several theatres in the country. He stressed the importance of sustained collaboration with the Ministry of Defence to enhance defence readiness and operational effectiveness.
The Air Chief highlighted key priority areas for the Service, including infrastructure development, fleet modernisation, improved personnel welfare, as well as expanded training and capacity building for officers and airmen.
In his remarks, Mr Pheelangwah commended the Nigerian Air Force for its increasing role in safeguarding national security. He assured the Service of the Ministry’s continued support in areas such as infrastructure development, procurement reforms and personnel advancement.
He added that these efforts would further strengthen the operational capability of the Nigerian Air Force and help sustain ongoing gains in counter terrorism operations across the country.
