Military Pensions Board Chair Pledges Faster, Transparent Payments for Retirees

The Chairman of the Military Pensions Board (MPB), Air Vice Marshal Mikail Abdulraheem, has pledged to fast-track pension administration and strengthen transparency to eliminate delays in payments to retired military personnel. He made the commitment during a courtesy visit to the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), in Abuja.
Abdulraheem said the Board is implementing far-reaching reforms aimed at modernising pension processes, improving efficiency, and ensuring accuracy in the disbursement of entitlements. According to him, the reforms are designed to remove longstanding bottlenecks and enhance accountability across the pension system.
He emphasised that timely payment of pensions to retirees and benefits to next-of-kin remains a top priority, noting that improved coordination and the adoption of better administrative tools would significantly reduce complaints and restore confidence in the system.
In his response, General Musa described pension administration as a critical component of military welfare and institutional credibility. He reaffirmed the Ministry of Defence’s commitment to supporting initiatives that guarantee prompt and seamless payment of pensions to those who served the nation.
Both officials agreed that closer collaboration between the Ministry and the Military Pensions Board would help rebuild trust, improve service delivery, and ensure that retired personnel receive their benefits as and when due.
