The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, in collaboration with the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Lagos Zonal Office, has organised a comprehensive lecture on pension administration, financial intelligence, retirement planning, and wealth management for its personnel. The event, held on Monday, August 24, 2026, brought together management staff, Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, Tactical Commanders, and other senior officers of the Command.

Addressing participants at the lecture, the Lagos State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr. Adedotun Keshinro, fnarc, emphasised the importance of equipping officers with sound financial knowledge and pension awareness. He noted that understanding financial management principles and pension schemes is essential for building a secure and sustainable future during active service and after retirement.

Commandant Keshinro stated that retirement planning remains a critical aspect of every officer’s career, describing it as a financial strategy designed to help individuals save, invest, and accumulate resources that will sustain their lifestyle after leaving active service. He stressed that proper planning today guarantees financial stability tomorrow.

The Commandant advised officers against sacrificing their future for short-term comforts, urging them to embrace financial discipline and delayed gratification. According to him, prudent financial decisions and consistent savings are necessary steps toward achieving long-term financial security and independence after retirement.

He further directed the Pension Unit of the Command to develop a structured sensitisation programme that would extend pension and financial literacy awareness to personnel across all Area Commands in Lagos State, ensuring that every officer benefits from the initiative.

The National Pension Commission, Lagos Zonal Office, was represented by its Team Lead, Mrs. Sarah Joseph, who delivered an extensive presentation covering critical aspects of pension administration and retirement planning. Her lecture provided valuable insights into the workings of the pension system and the responsibilities of contributors under the scheme.

Mrs. Joseph explained the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), describing it as a mandatory retirement savings framework regulated by PenCom, under which both employees and employers make monthly contributions into a Retirement Savings Account (RSA) for the benefit of workers upon retirement.

During the interactive session, she addressed numerous questions raised by officers on issues including pension remittances, data capturing, Retirement Savings Accounts, transfers between Pension Fund Administrators, pension reforms, gratuity, group life assurance, annuity for life, and other retirement-related matters. Her responses provided greater clarity on the rights, obligations, and benefits available to contributors.

Participants commended the lecture for its practical relevance and educational value. Many officers expressed appreciation for the opportunity to gain deeper knowledge of personal finance management, retirement planning, and pension administration, describing the session as enlightening and beneficial to their future wellbeing.

The event also attracted representatives from several Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs), including Leadway Pensure, Access ARM Pensions, Parthian Partners, Stanbic IBTC Pension Managers, and Trustfund Pensions Limited, among others. Their presence further enriched discussions and reinforced the commitment of stakeholders to promoting financial literacy and retirement preparedness among NSCDC personnel in Lagos State.
