The Department of State Services (DSS) has successfully rescued 25 children who were abducted in Sabon Layi community of Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State. The rescued victims were formally handed over to the Plateau State Government in Jos on Saturday.
The Secretary to the State Government, Samuel Jatau, confirmed the development, commending the DSS for its swift and professional intervention. He said the successful operation underscored the commitment of security agencies to safeguarding lives, especially vulnerable children.
According to Jatau, the children were kidnapped on December 21, 2025, while travelling to attend a Maulud celebration. He disclosed that the abductors reportedly disguised themselves as vigilante members before intercepting and abducting the victims.
He explained that following the incident, the DSS launched an intensive manhunt that eventually led to the safe rescue of all 25 children without any loss of life or injury. The operation, he noted, was carried out with precision and discretion.
Jatau further stated that the victims, comprising six females and 19 males, have undergone medical examinations and were confirmed to be in stable health. He added that arrangements were being made for their reunification with their families, while the state government continues to work with security agencies to prevent a recurrence.
