The Special Mining Marshals have once again demonstrated that effective security management goes far beyond the use of force. In Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State, the Corps recorded a significant success through a non-kinetic, community-focused strategy aimed at addressing longstanding illegal mining activities.
Commander ACC Attah John Onoja noted that the operation reflects the Marshals’ core doctrine, which prioritizes resolving conflicts by carefully assessing the unique dynamics of each situation and adopting solutions that safeguard the interests of all stakeholders.
The Mariga engagement offers an important lesson for Nigeria’s security landscape: constructive dialogue, confidence-building, and locally tailored solutions can achieve lasting results in situations where coercive methods may not. The success recorded by the Mining Marshals reinforces the value of adaptive, intelligence-driven approaches in protecting Nigeria’s extractive industry.
The Corps also urged community members to fully embrace the peaceful resolution, emphasizing that maintaining the newfound stability will support environmental protection and promote the socio-economic development of the area.
