Gunmen attacked a mosque during the Subh prayer in Kiba Ruwa, Sabon-Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State early Saturday, killing two people, including the imam. Several worshippers were abducted, though the exact number is yet to be confirmed.
Security agencies have been alerted, and search operations are ongoing to rescue the victims and apprehend the attackers.
The local community has expressed shock and grief over the attack. Residents have called for urgent government intervention to protect places of worship and ensure the safety of worshippers, emphasizing that such incidents undermine peace and security in the region.
This tragic incident comes just weeks after bandits abducted 26 schoolgirls from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State. The previous abduction sparked outrage, especially after reports indicated that soldiers deployed to the school were withdrawn shortly before the attack.
Authorities have called for heightened vigilance and increased security measures to prevent further attacks on vulnerable communities.
