Federal Fire Service Wives Association (FOWA) Marks 2025 International Day of the Girl Child in Partnership with Female Journalists and Prince 7 Youth Initiative

The Federal Fire Service Wives Association (FOWA) joined millions across Nigeria and the world to celebrate the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child, themed “The Girl I Am: The Change I Lead – Girls in the Frontline of Crisis.” The event was held at Kuje Model Primary School, Abuja, and also involved students from Kayada Secondary and Kayada Primary Schools.

Organized in collaboration with the Female Journalists Network and the Prince 7 Youth Development Initiative, the celebration focused on education, mentorship, empowerment, and the role of girls as future leaders.

In her welcome address, Mrs. Olufunke Olumode, J.P., President of FOWA, stressed the importance of investing in girls through education, mentorship, and skill development. She highlighted that empowering girls equips them to actively contribute to national growth and confidently lead, even during crises.

Mrs. Goodwill Edward, wife of the President of the Prince 7 Youth Initiative, delivered a goodwill message praising FOWA and its partners for their sustained commitment to the welfare and development of young girls. She encouraged stakeholders to create more opportunities for girls to maximize their potential and leadership skills.

Guest speaker, Barrister Chimdi Neliaku, motivated students with an inspiring message urging them to dream big, stay disciplined, and pursue their aspirations. She reminded the girls that “if you can dream it, you can achieve it,” encouraging them to become positive change-makers within their communities.

As part of the empowerment program, educational materials and hygiene kits were distributed to students, while FOWA members conducted fire safety awareness sessions. Firefighters also carried out a live fire-extinguishing demonstration using fire blankets and extinguishers, highlighting the professionalism and preparedness of the Federal Fire Service.

In his closing remarks, Mr. Haliru Ibrahim Muhammed, Principal of Kuje Model Primary School, expressed gratitude to FOWA, the Female Journalists Network, and the Prince 7 Youth Initiative for their impactful collaboration. He praised their dedication to inspiring and empowering the next generation of female leaders.

The 2025 International Day of the Girl Child celebration reaffirmed FOWA’s commitment to advancing education, safety, and empowerment for girls, ensuring they are equipped to become leaders and agents of positive change in society.
