Nigerian Army troops deployed across multiple operations have foiled terror attacks, rescued kidnapped victims, and recovered arms and ammunition in coordinated missions within the last 24 hours.
A reliable source at Army Headquarters disclosed on Saturday that the operations took place in Kebbi, Katsina, Edo, Niger, Plateau, and Abia states.
In Kebbi, troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA responded to a distress call at Dundaye village in Augie Local Government Area around 7:30 p.m. on Friday. On arrival, they discovered that terrorists had killed two civilians and rustled cattle. Though the criminals fled through their withdrawal route before contact was made, troops intensified patrols to deny them freedom of movement.
Similarly, troops of the 17 Brigade in Katsina responded to gunfire in Layin Minista village, Malumfashi LGA, at about 10:50 p.m. the same night. The terrorists, who had abducted two women, fled upon sighting the soldiers. Aggressive patrols are ongoing to ensure the victims’ safe release and restore public confidence.
In Edo State, troops of the 4 Brigade under Operation MESA carried out a midnight search-and-rescue mission on August 29 in Ugboha community, Esan South-East LGA. One civilian kidnapped on August 27 in Amedokhaian community while heading to his farm was successfully rescued and efforts are underway to reunite him with his family.
Troops also recorded success in Niger State, where personnel of Forward Operating Base Babanna recovered an AK-47 magazine loaded with 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition abandoned by insurgents during a previous encounter.
The military source stressed that the Nigerian Army remains committed to neutralising security threats, rescuing victims, and restoring lasting peace nationwide.
“Our troops remain resolute in their mandate to protect citizens and deny criminals the freedom to operate,” the source added.
