Shehu Buba Invites DSS, Police, DIA to Investigate Banditry Allegations

By Samuel Ike, Abuja

Senator Shehu Buba Umar, representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, has offered to cooperate fully with the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police Force and the Defence Intelligence Agency in investigations into allegations linking him to banditry, terrorism financing, kidnapping and other violent crimes.

The senator, who has consistently denied the allegations, said his decision to submit himself to investigation was aimed at enabling the security agencies to establish the facts and bring clarity to claims that have generated considerable public attention. He described the allegations as politically motivated and defamatory, maintaining that they should be subjected to proper investigation rather than speculation.

Through his legal counsel, former Nigerian Bar Association President and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, the senator reportedly requested that the DSS, Police and DIA conduct a comprehensive investigation into the allegations and determine whether there is any credible evidence linking him to the alleged criminal activities.

Buba also challenged anyone in possession of evidence against him to submit such material to the appropriate security authorities for investigation. He cautioned against relying on unverified claims, edited recordings, anonymous allegations and social media publications in determining matters of such grave nature.

The allegations have resurfaced in recent weeks following claims made during social media interviews concerning alleged contacts between the senator and persons suspected of involvement in banditry. Buba has rejected the allegations, while the claims remain matters for investigation and have not, on their own, established his involvement in any criminal activity.

The senator further indicated his willingness to face the consequences of the law should a competent investigation establish credible evidence against him. He maintained that the matter should be resolved through thorough investigation, due process and the presentation of verifiable evidence rather than through public speculation or political recrimination.
