Security Agencies Raise Alarm Over Planned Attacks on NYSC Orientation Camps

By Isiaka Mustapha, Editor-in-Chief

Nigeria’s security agencies have raised concerns over intelligence reports indicating possible threats to some National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camps across the country, prompting heightened security measures to safeguard corps members, camp officials and critical facilities.

The alert, which was issued through relevant security channels, has led to the deployment of additional personnel and surveillance assets around selected orientation camps as authorities intensify efforts to prevent any breach of security during the ongoing service year activities.

According to security sources, the intelligence reports suggested that criminal elements and other hostile groups may be targeting public institutions and large gatherings, including NYSC camps, making it necessary for security agencies to strengthen protective measures around such locations.

The Nigeria Police Force, working in collaboration with other security agencies, has assured corps members, parents and guardians that adequate measures have been put in place to guarantee the safety of all participants in the national service programme. The agencies said they are closely monitoring developments and conducting proactive operations aimed at neutralising any emerging threats.

Security operatives have also increased patrols around orientation camps, access roads and adjoining communities, while intelligence gathering activities have been intensified to identify and apprehend individuals or groups planning to disrupt public peace.

Officials urged corps members to remain vigilant and comply with all security advisories issued by camp authorities. They were also encouraged to report suspicious movements, unattended objects or unusual activities to security personnel for immediate action.

The agencies stressed that while the intelligence reports are being treated with the utmost seriousness, there is no cause for panic as comprehensive security arrangements have been activated to ensure the safety and welfare of corps members throughout the orientation exercise.

Parents and members of the public were advised to rely only on information released through official channels and to avoid spreading unverified reports capable of creating unnecessary fear or anxiety.

Security authorities reaffirmed their commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining the integrity of the NYSC scheme, describing the programme as a vital institution for promoting national unity, integration and youth development.

They assured Nigerians that all necessary steps would continue to be taken to forestall any threat and ensure that orientation camps across the federation remain safe and secure for participants and staff alike.
