
The Chairman of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Retailers, Enugu Branch of NUPENG, Comrade Emmanuel Nnajiofor, has paid a courtesy visit to the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Enugu State Command Comdt. Dr. Elijah Etim Willie.
The Chairman, who was accompanied by key officials from the Emene Zone, was warmly received by the State Commandant alongside principal officers from various units including Administration, Operations, Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, and the Anti-Vandalism Unit.
During the visit, Comrade Nnajiofor expressed appreciation for the opportunity to engage directly with the NSCDC leadership. He called for enhanced collaboration and synergy in sanitizing the LPG sector. He highlighted key concerns such as the prevalence of unlicensed operators, the activities of quacks, and pressing safety issues within the industry. The Chairman also raised alarm over the indiscriminate siting of gas depots in close proximity to residential areas, noting the risks such practices pose to public safety.
In response, the State Commandant, Dr Willie, reaffirmed the NSCDC’s statutory mandate as the lead government agency in enforcing regulations and maintaining standards in critical national sectors. He assured the visiting delegation of the Corps’ readiness to partner in sanitizing the LPG sector, including providing operational support during joint enforcement exercises. The State Commandant also requested a copy of the regulatory framework guiding the LPG retailers’ operations to ensure that all collaborative actions are within legal bounds.
