
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander of Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), Major General EF Oyinlola, has called on personnel to remain dedicated to their duties and strive to enhance their professional skills. The charge was made during the inauguration ceremony of the Driver Basic Course 1/2025, held on Thursday, 27 February 2025, at the Maxwell Khobe Cantonment Auditorium in Jos.
The training program, organized by the 73 Supply and Transport Brigade (73 ST Bde), aims to equip participants with essential driving skills and vehicle maintenance knowledge. This initiative is designed to boost individual capabilities and operational efficiency, enabling personnel to excel in both combat and non-combat roles.
Represented by the Chief of Staff, Brigadier General AU Gumel, Major General Oyinlola emphasized the significance of the course in producing skilled drivers for various units. He urged the trainees to take the opportunity seriously, as the program would enhance their driving proficiency and technical expertise, ultimately improving their effectiveness in fulfilling their responsibilities.
The GOC stressed the importance of discipline and adherence to training regulations, warning that any violations would be met with appropriate sanctions. He also commended the 73 ST Bde for their dedication to training competent drivers, noting that the initiative addresses the growing demand for skilled military drivers while reducing the risk of road traffic accidents.
In his welcome address, the Commander of the 73 ST Bde, Colonel AA Andidi, described the inauguration as a key milestone in the division’s 2025 training agenda. He revealed that the 52 participants, drawn from various formations and units within the 3 Division Area of Responsibility, would undergo three months of intensive training. Colonel Andidi urged the trainees to approach the program with seriousness, emphasizing that punctuality and attendance would be strictly enforced.
He highlighted that the skills acquired during the course would not only enhance the participants’ professional competence but also contribute to the operational success of their respective units. “By the end of this training, you will be proficient in driving and vehicle maintenance, which are critical to mission accomplishment,” Colonel Andidi stated.
The event featured a welcome address by the Commander of the 73 Supply and Transport Brigade, an inaugural speech by the Special Guest of Honour, the formal inauguration of the course, and a group photograph at the 3 Division Headquarters.
