As the Mining Marshals celebrate their second anniversary, commendations have continued to pour in for the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, whose visionary leadership and strategic foresight are widely credited with laying the foundation for the outfit’s remarkable achievements.
Since its establishment, the Mining Marshals have recorded significant successes in the fight against illegal mining activities across the country. The special unit has intensified enforcement operations, dismantled illegal mining camps, arrested suspected offenders, and strengthened the protection of Nigeria’s solid minerals sector from economic sabotage.
Stakeholders in the mining and security sectors have described the initiative as a bold and timely intervention that has restored confidence in the Federal Government’s commitment to sanitising the mining industry. They noted that the unit’s operations have contributed to improved compliance with mining regulations and enhanced security around mining sites nationwide.
Observers also attributed the operational successes of the Marshals to the unwavering support and leadership direction provided by Audi, who championed the creation of the specialised outfit as part of broader efforts to combat illegal exploitation of the nation’s mineral resources.
Industry experts further stated that the establishment of the Mining Marshals has helped to curb revenue losses previously caused by illegal mining activities, while also promoting lawful exploration and investment in the sector. According to them, the initiative has strengthened inter agency collaboration between security bodies and regulatory authorities in the mining industry.
Several community leaders in mining prone areas also praised the Marshals for improving security and reducing the activities of criminal elements often linked to illegal mining operations. They expressed optimism that the unit would continue to expand its operations and sustain the momentum achieved within the past two years.
As the anniversary is commemorated, many stakeholders have called for increased logistical support, advanced training, and modern operational equipment for the Mining Marshals to further enhance their effectiveness in protecting Nigeria’s mineral resources and national economic interests.
