The Federal Fire Service has conducted a fire drill and safety awareness training for staff of the Federal Ministry of Interior as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen fire safety culture within government institutions and improve emergency preparedness.
The two day training programme, organised by the Service’s Investigation, Inspection and Enforcement Unit, took place from 11 to 12 March 2026. It was designed to equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to prevent fire outbreaks and respond effectively to emergencies in the workplace.
Declaring the programme open, Chief Superintendent of Fire Iliasu, who heads the Enforcement Unit, stressed the importance of fire safety awareness in public offices. He urged staff members to adopt proactive safety practices and remain alert at all times in order to reduce the risk of fire incidents and maintain a safe working environment.
To ensure broad participation, the training was organised in two sessions. Senior officers attended the programme on the first day, while junior officers completed the training on the second day.
During the lecture session, Chief Superintendent of Fire Festus Enato delivered detailed presentations on key aspects of fire safety. Participants were guided on fire prevention strategies, fire protection measures, emergency evacuation procedures, and basic firefighting techniques. They were also educated on common causes of fire outbreaks and simple preventive measures that can significantly reduce fire risks in office settings.
The programme ended with a practical fire drill, during which officers of the Federal Fire Service demonstrated proper evacuation procedures and the correct handling and use of fire extinguishers during emergencies. The exercise gave participants hands on experience and strengthened their capacity to respond quickly, calmly, and effectively in the event of a fire incident.
