The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a sustained security presence in schools nationwide following recent attacks and abductions involving students. Authorities stated that the new strategy aims to go beyond temporary emergency responses by introducing a structured and continuous deployment of security personnel, particularly in high-risk and vulnerable communities.
The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, disclosed that the government is working on securing sustainable funding for school protection programmes. He also revealed plans to establish a dedicated Safe Schools Department that will coordinate and supervise security efforts across the country.
As part of the renewed approach, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has been designated as the lead agency responsible for implementing the Safe Schools Initiative. The Corps will focus on safeguarding students, teachers, and educational facilities to ensure a secure learning environment nationwide.
