Federal Fire Service Launches Nationwide Fire Safety Audit, Inaugurates Sub-Task Forces

The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has commenced a nationwide fire safety audit following the formal inauguration of Sub-Task Forces across all State Commands. The initiative is part of a strategic national effort to strengthen fire prevention measures and ensure compliance with fire safety regulations in public and private buildings across the country.
The inauguration, conducted virtually on behalf of the Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service, was led by the Chairman of the Special Task Force on Public and Private Buildings Audit, Assistant Controller-General B. T. Mohammed. The activation of the Sub-Task Forces marks the beginning of coordinated fire safety inspection and assessment operations nationwide.
In his address, ACG Mohammed charged members of the Sub-Task Forces to discharge their duties with a high sense of responsibility, professionalism, and integrity. He described the audit as a critical national assignment aimed at identifying fire safety deficiencies, enforcing regulatory compliance, and preventing avoidable fire incidents in buildings nationwide.
He further emphasised the need for objectivity and impartiality in carrying out the exercise, urging officers to uphold the core values and operational standards of the Federal Fire Service. According to him, accurate assessments, proper documentation, and timely reporting are essential to the success of the audit and will significantly enhance national fire safety preparedness and emergency response capabilities.
Addressing members of the public, the Chairman appealed for cooperation and understanding, stressing that the audit is not intended to disrupt business activities or daily routines. Rather, it is designed to safeguard lives, protect property, and secure critical infrastructure. He encouraged building owners and occupants to comply with fire safety requirements, implement recommended corrective measures, and embrace the exercise as a collective step toward a safer environment for all.
