FCT Fire Service Reaffirms Statutory Mandate, Leadership Structure

The Federal Capital Territory Fire Service has issued a public rejoinder to residents of the FCT to clarify recent narratives capable of creating confusion about fire safety responsibilities within the Territory. The Service said the statement became necessary in the interest of public safety, clarity, and sustained public trust.
The FCT Fire Service reaffirmed that it remains the statutorily mandated authority responsible for saving lives and protecting property from fire incidents across the Federal Capital Territory. It emphasized that no other body or group shares or supersedes this responsibility within the FCT.
According to the Service, it operates an extensive and unmatched operational network, with thirteen fully functional fire stations within the city centre and adjoining satellite towns, as well as one fire station in each of the six Area Councils. This wide coverage ensures prompt emergency response, effective coordination, and deep familiarity with local environments.
The Service noted that its operational presence enables continuous engagement with residents, businesses, institutions, and communities on fire safety matters, including emergency response, fire prevention, inspections, enforcement, training, and public enlightenment programmes.
The statement further clarified that the leadership of the FCT Fire Service remains unchanged and firmly in place. The Service is under the leadership of Engr. Adebayo Zacchaeus, Controller of the FCT Fire Service, who is supported by a team of senior officers overseeing operations, enforcement, training, fire prevention, medical response, and search and rescue functions.
Residents of the FCT were advised to deal only with duly recognised personnel and the official command structure of the FCT Fire Service. The Service also urged the public to remain vigilant against individuals or groups falsely parading themselves as representatives of the Service with the intention of misleading or defrauding unsuspecting members of the public.
