FFS Kano Command Strengthens Workplace Safety Culture at NDIC Kano

The Federal Fire Service (FFS), Kano State Command, has enhanced workplace safety at the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), Kano Zonal Office, following a formal request for advanced fire safety training. In response, the Command deployed a team of skilled officers to deliver comprehensive capacity-building sessions and hands-on practical drills for NDIC staff.

Upon arrival, the FFS team was received by Mr. Ahmad Umar, Controller of the NDIC Kano Zonal Office, who facilitated full participation from all departments. The training commenced with an overview of core fire safety principles tailored to NDIC operations, including hazard identification, preventive strategies, and emergency preparedness.

The advanced training covered key areas such as:

  1. Fundamentals of fire science and fire behaviour
  2. Early-warning systems, detection methods, and alarm protocols
  3. Practical fire prevention measures for office and operational workspaces
  4. Emergency response coordination, evacuation procedures, and incident communication
  5. Hands-on demonstrations on the correct use of fire extinguishers and related equipment

An interactive question-and-answer session further enriched the programme, enabling staff to gain clarity, share experiences, and deepen their understanding of fire safety practices. This engagement significantly enhanced overall preparedness within the institution.

In his remarks, Mr. Ahmad Umar expressed sincere appreciation to the State Controller, Amb. Engr. Kazeem Sholadoye Oyefola, COREN, MNIM, MNSE, for the Command’s timely and professional support. He reaffirmed NDIC’s commitment to upholding a safe, secure, and resilient working environment.

This initiative reflects the vision of the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, which prioritizes capacity building, proactive risk reduction, and improved institutional readiness nationwide. The Kano State Command remains dedicated to helping organizations strengthen their safety culture and fire-prevention capabilities.
