The sustained campaign against crime and illicit drug activities in Abuja recorded another significant breakthrough on August 24, 2026, when operatives of the Wuye Police Division arrested six suspected drug peddlers during a midnight raid at Ruga 2 City Gate, Wuye. The operation was led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Yetunde Agana, who personally coordinated and participated in the exercise alongside surveillance and crime officers attached to the division.

The raid, which commenced at about 1:30 a.m., was carried out in collaboration with members of the local vigilante group following intelligence reports on the activities of suspected drug dealers operating within the area. During the operation, six suspects were apprehended, while four of them were found in possession of quantities of hard drugs believed to be intended for distribution within the community.

Police sources disclosed that the suspects were immediately taken into custody for investigation, while the recovered substances were documented as exhibits. Following the conclusion of preliminary investigations, the suspects were arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction for prosecution in accordance with the law.

Security stakeholders have attributed the success of the operation to the proactive leadership style of CSP Yetunde Agana, whose tenure at the Wuye Police Division has witnessed a renewed offensive against criminal elements. Since assuming duty as DPO, the division has intensified intelligence gathering, community policing initiatives, and targeted operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks operating within Wuye and adjoining communities.

Residents and community leaders have acknowledged a noticeable decline in criminal activities across the division in recent months. According to local security volunteers and community stakeholders, incidents of drug-related disturbances, street crimes, and other forms of criminality have reduced significantly as a result of increased police visibility, regular patrols, and strategic raids conducted under Agana’s leadership.

The latest operation is part of broader efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to combat drug abuse and trafficking, which security experts identify as major drivers of crimes such as robbery, cultism, violent assaults, and youth delinquency. By targeting drug distribution points and apprehending suspects, law enforcement authorities aim to disrupt the supply chain that fuels criminal activities within urban communities.

Observers believe the successful raid sends a strong message to criminal elements that Wuye and its environs are becoming increasingly hostile to illicit activities. With the continued collaboration between the police, vigilante groups, and community members, residents have expressed optimism that the ongoing security measures will further consolidate peace, safety, and lawfulness across the division.
