A swift response by operatives of the Wuye Police Division, Abuja, has led to the arrest of a suspected vandal and the recovery of vandalized government infrastructure following a distress call received in the early hours of August 28, 2026.

The operation was led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Yetunde Agana, who mobilized her patrol and guard teams to the scene at about 5:30 a.m. Acting on credible information, the police collaborated with the Hunters Group led by Commander Anene Ogene to track down suspects allegedly involved in the destruction and theft of critical public infrastructure.

During the operation, the security team arrested Moses Luka, a male resident of the Central Area of Abuja, in connection with the incident. Police authorities disclosed that three other suspects linked to the crime escaped from the scene and remain at large, while efforts have been intensified to apprehend them.

The crime scene was located along the corridor between Magic Land Amusement Park and the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, an area where vandals reportedly targeted armored electrical cables belonging to government infrastructure. Security operatives recovered the vandalized armored cables during the operation, preventing what could have resulted in further damage to public assets.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the recovered cables form part of critical infrastructure serving the area. Security experts have repeatedly warned that the vandalization of public utilities not only imposes huge financial losses on government but also disrupts essential services and poses serious safety risks to the public.

The arrested suspect is currently undergoing further investigation at the Wuye Police Division, while detectives are pursuing leads that could result in the arrest of the remaining members of the suspected vandalism syndicate. Police investigators also documented the crime scene and obtained video evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.

The successful operation underscores the growing collaboration between the police and community-based security groups in protecting public infrastructure across the Federal Capital Territory. Residents and stakeholders have commended CSP Yetunde Agana and her team for their prompt response, noting that proactive policing and intelligence-driven operations remain vital to safeguarding critical national assets from criminal elements.
