FEDERAL FIRE SERVICE WRAPS UP 2025 FIRE SAFETY WEEK WITH NATIONAL HONOURS AND STAKEHOLDER RECOGNITION

The Federal Fire Service has successfully concluded the 2025 National Fire Safety Week after five days of intensive nationwide activities designed to deepen public awareness and promote responsible fire prevention practices. The event ended today in Abuja with the presentation of certificates and special awards to organisations, partners, and individuals whose outstanding contributions and adherence to safety standards distinguished them throughout the year.

Guided by the theme “Building a Culture of Fire Safety Across Nigeria: Overcoming the ‘Not My Portion’ Mentality,” this year’s edition challenged widespread misconceptions about fire incidents and reinforced the message that fire prevention is achievable and essential. From the opening ceremony, officials highlighted the importance of personal responsibility, prompt hazard reporting, and compliance with basic safety rules—a message that quickly spread nationwide through media outlets.

On the second day, officers moved into major commercial and industrial zones to engage business owners, artisans, and informal sector workers. These interactions emphasized safe practices in busy economic spaces, including proper electrical usage, correct handling of combustible materials, and practical steps to minimize fire risks in high-activity environments.

The third day featured extensive outreach to schools across various states. Students and teachers participated in interactive demonstrations on identifying danger signs, executing orderly evacuations, and responding calmly in emergency situations. Many schools also used the opportunity to review their safety procedures and seek guidance tailored to their specific needs.

Day four focused on markets nationwide, where officers engaged thousands of traders. Fire safety teams conducted stall-to-stall assessments, demonstrations, and awareness sessions tailored to the unique risks of crowded market settings, where minor oversights can lead to major incidents.

The week-long campaign drew to a close today with a formal ceremony attended by stakeholders from both the public and private sectors. Certificates were presented to schools, markets, corporate bodies, and partners who actively participated throughout the week. Organisations noted for consistent compliance with fire safety regulations and exceptional safety performance received special recognition.

The Federal Fire Service expressed deep appreciation to all participants and reaffirmed its commitment to expanding fire safety education across the nation. The Service emphasized that while the 2025 Fire Safety Week has concluded, the responsibility to prevent fire outbreaks is a continuous, shared duty for all Nigerians.
