The Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has successfully secured the conviction of one Yusuff Isiaka (male, 30 years old) on a four-count charge bordering on assault occasioning harm and stealing. The conviction was delivered by Chief Magistrate O.O. Ogunkanmi of the Chief Magistrate Court, Oyo State, in Charge No. MI/1178C/25.
After careful consideration of the evidence and facts presented by the prosecution, the court found the defendant guilty on all counts and sentenced him to a total of sixteen (16) years imprisonment.
Summary of the Charges:
- Count I: On July 12, 2025, at about 1605hrs, in Ogunremi Village, Akinyele Local Government Area, Moniya, Ibadan, the convict assaulted one Egbeh Comfort at her farm, an offence contrary to Section 252 and punishable under Section 351 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
- Count II: On the same date and location, he inflicted injuries on the victim’s neck, contrary to and punishable under Section 355 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
- Count III: He stole items valued at ₦47,000 (Forty-Seven Thousand Naira) belonging to the victim, contrary to Section 383(1) and punishable under Section 390 of the same law.
- Count IV: He also stole an Itel A05 Android phone valued at ₦95,000 (Ninety-Five Thousand Naira), an offence contrary to Section 383 and punishable under Section 390 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
Sentence Breakdown:
- Count I – 1 year imprisonment
- Count II – 3 years imprisonment
- Count III – 6 years imprisonment
- Count IV – 6 years imprisonment
While commending the diligent efforts of officers who handled the investigation and prosecution, the Oyo State Commandant, Commandant Augustine Padonu, reaffirmed the Command’s steadfast commitment to ensuring justice and protecting the lives and property of residents across the state.
He cautioned criminal elements to desist from their unlawful acts, warning that the NSCDC will not relent in bringing offenders to justice.
Commandant Padonu also called on members of the public to continue partnering with the Corps by providing credible information that would help curb crime and enhance public safety in Oyo State.
