A Beacon of Excellence: The Inspiring Journey of CG Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, Controller General, Federal Fire Service

Controller-General Olumode Samuel Adeyemi is an accomplished public administrator, financial strategist, and fire safety professional whose career exemplifies excellence, dedication, and transformative leadership within Nigeria’s emergency management sector. As the Deputy Controller-General of Fire, Administration and Supply, at the Federal Fire Service Headquarters, Abuja, he stands today as one of the most respected figures in modern fire and disaster management in Nigeria, a man whose intellect, integrity, and professionalism have significantly strengthened institutional efficiency and policy direction within the Service.

Born on the 22nd of November, 1972, in Aduratedo Ape-Bunu, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, CG Adeyemi’s early life was characterized by discipline, curiosity, and a natural inclination towards public service. His educational journey began at the Seventh-Day Adventist Primary School, Omu Aran, Kwara State, where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1983. He proceeded to Ekan Meje/Aran Orin Grammar School, Ekiti State, earning his West African School Certificate in 1990. His quest for knowledge and professional advancement led him to the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education (Economics) in 1999. Not content with an initial degree, he later returned to the same institution to earn a Master of Business Administration in Finance in 2015. To further deepen his expertise in risk and disaster response, he obtained a Professional Master’s Degree in Disaster Risk Management and Development Studies from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, in 2016.

CG Adeyemi’s academic and professional development also spans several international frontiers. In 2011, he attended Bournemouth University, United Kingdom, for specialized Fire Training in Breathing Apparatus, and has since participated in numerous high-level courses and certifications in Nigeria and abroad. These include Strategic Leadership, Ethics and Policy Making at NIPSS, Kuru, Jos (2023); Strategic Plan and Policy Formulation Course, Abuja (2024); Procurement Officers Course, Lagos (2020); Shift and Operational Management, National Fire Academy, Abuja (2019); Crew Command and Firefighting Survival Courses in Dubai (2019); and several others that attest to his broad expertise in fire prevention, command operations, and public administration.

A man of exceptional discipline and perseverance, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi began his professional journey with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service following his National Youth Service at the Federal Training Centre, Malali, Kaduna State (1999–2000). He joined the Fire Service formally on 4th November 2002, and through sheer hard work, competence, and leadership excellence, he has risen through every rank with distinction. His career progression reads like a chronicle of steady and meritorious growth: from Head of Operations at Kuje Fire Station (2002–2005), to Head of Operations at Mabushi Station (2005–2010), and then Head of Administration and Finance, FCT Fire Service (2010–2019). Upon transfer of service to the Federal Fire Service Headquarters in 2019, he served successively as Head of Budget (2019–2021) and Head of Procurement (2021–2024) before being appointed Zonal Controller, Zone E (Rivers and Akwa Ibom States) in early 2024. His outstanding leadership and proven administrative capacity culminated in his elevation to the prestigious rank of Deputy Controller-General of Fire in charge of Administration and Supply at the National Headquarters, Abuja, in April 2024.

In the course of his illustrious service, CG Adeyemi has contributed immensely to the modernization and reform of the Federal Fire Service. His initiatives in procurement management, financial accountability, staff welfare, and strategic planning have positioned the Service for greater transparency and operational readiness. He is widely admired for his strategic insight, administrative discipline, fiscal prudence, and passion for institutional excellence. Under his stewardship, the Directorate of Administration and Supply has become a model of efficiency, compliance, and professionalism in the public sector.

Beyond his administrative and operational brilliance, CG Adeyemi is a consummate professional with multiple fellowships and professional affiliations that attest to his wide-ranging competence. He is a Fellow of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria, a Fellow of the Institute of Public Administration of Nigeria, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Treasury Management, and a Fellow of the Association of Public Procurement Practitioners of Nigeria. In addition, he holds the distinguished title of Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria. These honors reflect not just his versatility, but also his firm grounding in the principles of financial management, governance, and public accountability.

CG Adeyemi’s global exposure includes notable study tours to the United Kingdom Fire Training and Command Centre and the Royal Institute of Public Administration (RIPA International), London, where he gained deep insights into emergency response coordination, institutional reforms, and human capital development in public service. His professional philosophy is shaped by a lifelong dedication to discipline, service, and continuous improvement, values he actively imparts to officers under his supervision.

A man of deep humility and refined taste, Controller-General Adeyemi balances his demanding career with a passion for sports and travel. He enjoys badminton and exploring new environments, pursuits that reflect his energetic disposition and inquisitive spirit. Married and blessed with a family, he remains an inspiration to many a symbol of diligence, loyalty, and leadership in Nigeria’s paramilitary and emergency management community. Through his remarkable achievements, DCG Olumode Samuel Adeyemi has not only advanced the cause of the Federal Fire Service but has also exemplified what it means to serve one’s country with honour, courage, and unwavering commitment to public good.
