The Controller General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Olumode Adeyemi Samuel, has cautioned officers and men of the Service to steer clear of job racketeering and other unethical practices, emphasizing the need for integrity and commitment to duty.
He gave the warning during his first official visit to the Abuja Metropolitan Command in Kubwa, where he met with officers to assess their challenges and reaffirm his reform agenda.
Addressing the personnel, CG Olumode reminded them that firefighting is not just a paid occupation but a sacred calling dedicated to protecting lives and property.
“Firefighting is not merely about earning a salary; it is a calling rooted in service to humanity,” he said. “While others run away from danger, firefighters run towards it to save communities, institutions, and national assets.”
The Controller General also disclosed that efforts are ongoing to secure first-line charge funding status for the Federal Fire Service. He revealed that discussions have already been held with the Accountant General of the Federation to ensure improved financial autonomy and prompt release of operational funds.
In a move to enhance staff welfare, CG Olumode announced an increase in the cooperative loan ceiling for personnel from ₦300,000 to ₦500,000, assuring that his administration remains committed to creating a better working environment and improving the living standards of firefighters nationwide.
He urged all officers to remain dedicated, disciplined, and professional in the discharge of their duties, stressing that integrity and passion must remain the cornerstone of the Federal Fire Service.
