The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has launched coordinated airstrikes on bandits’ strongholds in Kakihun, Oke-Ode, Babanla, and surrounding communities in Kwara State, following a brutal Sunday morning raid on Oke-Ode in Ifelodun Local Government Area.
During the attack, heavily armed men invaded the Ogbayo area of Oke-Ode, firing indiscriminately at residents and vigilante members. At least 12 people, including the Baale (community head) of Ogbayo, were killed in the violence.
NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, confirmed in a statement on Monday that reconnaissance missions and close air support were swiftly deployed to neutralize threats in the area. He disclosed that hostile elements sighted east of Babanla were decisively engaged, while surveillance flights provided critical intelligence to assist ground forces.
“The NAF assures Nigerians of its unwavering commitment to defend the nation’s territorial integrity and protect communities from criminal elements. Citizens are urged to remain vigilant and confident as the Armed Forces intensify efforts to restore peace across the country,” Ejodame said.
The statement added that the operations not only safeguarded military positions but also reinforced the force’s air superiority, maintaining pressure on bandit groups and preventing further incursions.
Meanwhile, the crisis deepened on Sunday night when bandits staged another raid on Marri Village in Patigi Local Government Area. The attackers, who struck between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. during heavy rainfall, killed one resident, injured another, and carted away several motorcycles.
According to security sources, the Nigerian Army responded swiftly to a distress call and successfully recovered all stolen motorcycles after pursuing the criminals. The intervention brought temporary relief to villagers, though fears of renewed attacks persist across Kwara North.
The Kwara State Police Command has assured residents that joint operations with the military and the National Forest Security Service are underway to track and apprehend the perpetrators.
