The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested nineteen (19) suspected vandals in different parts of the state, in its ongoing efforts to safeguard critical national assets and infrastructure.
Speaking during a media briefing at the Command Headquarters in Kano, the State Commandant, Bala Bawa Bodinga, said the arrests were made through intelligence-led patrols and surveillance operations in Madobi, Tudunwada, Gwale, Minjibir, and Kumbotso local government areas.
According to him, the suspects were caught engaging in unlawful acts such as tampering with electrical installations, communication cables, drainage slabs, and other public utilities. Items recovered from them include multiple rolls of aluminium cables valued in tens of thousands of naira, 6.1kg of armoured transformer cables, two rolls of sukudai, a short spear (Dan Bida), rubber solution (Sholusho), one motorcycle, broken soldering iron, as well as working tools like five shovels and five diggers.
Commandant Bodinga stressed that vandalism not only causes huge economic losses but also endangers lives and undermines development. He warned that the Corps will not tolerate such acts of sabotage, adding that the suspects have been profiled, thoroughly investigated, and will face prosecution in line with the law to serve as a deterrent to others.
He assured that the NSCDC in Kano remains fully committed to its constitutional mandate of protecting critical infrastructure. The Command, he noted, will continue to strengthen intelligence gathering, intensify patrols, and collaborate with sister security agencies, traditional rulers, and community stakeholders to ensure vandals and economic saboteurs have no hiding place in the state.
The Commandant also appealed to members of the public to continue to support the Corps by providing timely and useful information to help curb crime and protect collective assets.
“The NSCDC Kano Command will not relent in its duty to protect lives, property, and infrastructure for the peace and development of the state,” he declared.
