Speech By Isiaka Mustapha, CEO/Editor-in-Chief of People’s Security Monitor At The Ceremony Marking Commandant Bawa Bala Bodinga’s First 100 Days In Office As Jigawa State Commandant of The NSCDC

Distinguished Guests, Honorable Members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good morning, and thank you all for being here to mark the monumental occasion of Commandant Bawa Bala Bodinga’s first 100 days in office as the Jigawa State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). It is a great honour to stand before you today to celebrate this significant milestone.

As the CEO and Editor-in-Chief of People’s Security Monitor, I am not only delighted but also deeply impressed by the remarkable achievements of Commandant Bawa Bala Bodinga during his first 100 days in office. Today, we gather to celebrate not just the passing of time, but the remarkable impact he has already made on Jigawa State, its people, and the security landscape as a whole.

When Commandant Bodinga assumed office, Jigawa State, like many other parts of Nigeria, was facing significant security challenges. But in just 100 days, he has demonstrated exceptional leadership, vision, and commitment to the safety and well-being of the people of Jigawa State. His approach has been one of proactivity, collaboration, and innovative solutions approaches that are deeply needed in today’s complex security environment.

Under his leadership, we have seen a dramatic transformation in the way security is handled in this region. His approach is a testament to the vital role that strategic leadership plays in the success of security operations.

In his first three months, Commandant Bodinga has delivered impactful results that have reshaped the security landscape in Jigawa State. Within the first 100 days, the overall crime rate in Jigawa State has seen a notable decline of approximately 30% according to crime statistics. This is a direct reflection of the tireless efforts to strengthen law enforcement, enhance community relations, and increase patrols across key areas.

Commandant Bodinga has overseen the optimization of NSCDC’s resources in Jigawa, ensuring more targeted operations. The Corps’ ability to respond to emergencies and coordinate with other security agencies has improved significantly, making Jigawa a safer place for its citizens.

Through enhanced surveillance measures and intelligence networks, the NSCDC under Bodinga has been able to crack down on illegal mining activities, which had been a source of insecurity in rural areas. This has not only safeguarded the livelihoods of the local population but also contributed to the state’s economic stability. The Corps has partnered with state and local authorities to put measures in place to curb illegal mining, which has been a persistent problem.

Commandant Bodinga has prioritized counter-narcotics operations, leading to the seizure of several illegal drugs in his first 100 days. These efforts have significantly reduced the availability of illicit substances and disrupted the trade of dangerous drugs that often fuel violence and insecurity in the state.

One of the Commandant’s most impressive achievements has been his commitment to community policing. By organizing town hall meetings and reaching out to local leaders and community groups, he has fostered an atmosphere of trust and cooperation between the NSCDC and the communities it serves. The positive impact of these initiatives has been evident in the decline of communal clashes and an increase in community-driven security efforts.

Understanding that the success of any security operation is ultimately dependent on the well-being and preparedness of the personnel, Commandant Bodinga has overseen the upgrading of training facilities and provided regular professional development workshops for NSCDC staff. His commitment to the welfare of the Corps has greatly boosted morale, resulting in more motivated officers on the ground working to secure Jigawa State.

The Commandant has successfully strengthened the synergy between NSCDC and other security agencies in Jigawa State, leading to improved coordinated operations. This collaboration has been instrumental in curbing cross-border crimes, including smuggling and human trafficking, which had posed a threat to the region.

While the figures and statistics are impressive, it is equally important to acknowledge the human element that Commandant Bodinga has brought to this office. His leadership style is grounded in empathy, integrity, and transparency qualities that have made him a true servant leader to the people of Jigawa.

His active engagement with local communities, his focus on ensuring the security of women and children, and his unwavering commitment to improving the safety of farmers in the face of rising threats from banditry and cattle rustling have been instrumental in creating a secure environment for growth and development.

It is essential to recognize that security is not just about the absence of crime; it’s also about creating the conditions for a thriving economy. In Commandant Bodinga’s first 100 days, he has made significant contributions to Jigawa’s economic stability by ensuring the safety of farming communities. As agriculture remains the backbone of Jigawa’s economy, his efforts to protect farmers from cattle rustlers and other criminal elements have allowed agriculture to flourish. With a more secure environment, businesses are now more willing to invest in Jigawa, contributing to economic growth and creating jobs for the people of the state.

I would also like to take this moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi mni, OFR, whose visionary leadership and unwavering support have been pivotal to the success of Commandant Bodinga’s efforts in Jigawa.

Professor Audi’s commitment to ensuring that the NSCDC’s personnel are well-equipped, well-trained, and provided with the logistical support needed to carry out their duties has made all the difference. His leadership has empowered Commandant Bodinga and other officers to do their best, and we are already seeing the results of this in Jigawa.

The logistical backing provided by the Commandant General, in terms of resources, personnel, and training, has allowed Commandant Bodinga to address security challenges more effectively and efficiently. Without such support from the top leadership of the NSCDC, the outstanding achievements we are celebrating today would not have been possible.

Thank you, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, for your continued dedication to the safety and security of Nigeria and for empowering Commandant Bodinga to lead with excellence in Jigawa State.

As we look ahead to the future, it is clear that Commandant Bodinga’s leadership has set the stage for even greater achievements. With his proven ability to adapt to evolving security challenges, his focus on sustainable security policies, and his relentless dedication to protecting the people of Jigawa State, I have no doubt that the next 100 days will see even more remarkable progress.

We are confident that Commandant Bodinga will continue to build on this foundation, ensuring that Jigawa State remains one of the safest regions in Nigeria for both its residents and investors.

On behalf of People’s Security Monitor, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Commandant Bawa Bala Bodinga on reaching this significant milestone of 100 days in office. Your achievements in such a short time have proven your mettle as a leader, a protector, and a servant of the people.

Ladies and gentlemen, please join me in applauding Commandant Bodinga for his exceptional service, his unwavering dedication, and his outstanding leadership.

Once again, I extend our sincerest gratitude to Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, whose continuous support empowers all of us in the NSCDC to perform our duties with the utmost efficiency.

I thank you all for your attention.
