COMMANDANT BALA BAWA BODINGA: 100 DAYS OF IMPACTFUL LEADERSHIP IN JIGAWA STATE

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Jigawa State Command, under the leadership of Commandant Bala Bawa Bodinga, has marked a remarkable milestone of 100 days in office. The event, held on Tuesday, 19th of August, 2025 was graced by dignitaries from all walks of life, including security agencies, Academics, Philanthropist, Journalists, Political leaders, Religious leaders and Community Stakeholders.

His tenure so far has been defined by professionalism, reforms, strategic collaborations, and visible results in the fight against crime and the protection of critical infrastructure in the State.

A Profile of Dedication and Service

Born on 7th February 1973 in Bodinga Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Commandant Bodinga has distinguished himself as a disciplined officer, a dedicated public servant, and an accomplished security professional.

He is a graduate of the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he obtained a B.Ed in Hausa. Over the years, he has complemented his academic foundation with professional training courses both locally and internationally. Some of these include:

Drills and Parade with the Nigerian Army 4th Battalion Guards, Lugi Barrack.

Civil-Military Coordination (CIMIC), Nigerian Army Peacekeeping Center, Jaji Barrack, Kaduna.

Leadership in Security Course, Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja.

Arms Training, Nigerian Prisons Service Training School, Owerri, Imo State.

Essential Skills for Effective Service Delivery, NSCDC Academy, Sauka, Abuja.

Cybersecurity and Disaster Management, in collaboration with UNDP.

Leadership and Supervisory Management, UNDP.

RAPID Emergency Management Assistance Program, Bucharest, Romania (2023).

Certificate in Intelligence Operations, International Institute of Professional Security (IIPS).

These professional qualifications have equipped him with the knowledge and skills to tackle evolving security challenges in Nigeria.

Career Experience and Strategic Roles

Commandant Bodinga has held several strategic positions across the country, which reflect his competence and versatility. Among them are:

Chief Security Officer (CSO), FCT Secondary and Universal Education Boards.

CSO, National Hajj/Christian Pilgrims Commission, Abuja.

Liaison Officer to the FCT Minister.

Head of Surveillance, Private Guard Company, FCT Command.

Divisional Officer, Bwari Division, FCT Abuja.

Beat Coordinator, FCT Command.

Head of Anti-Vandal Unit, Akwa Ibom Command.

Head of CNAI and Head of Training/Operations, Zamfara Command.

Head of Operations, FCT Command.

Second-in-Command, Kogi State Command.

Commandant, Kebbi State Command (later recalled to NHQ by the CG, Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Audi, Mni, PhD).

He has also served on several disciplinary committees, task forces, and inter-agency collaborations that further strengthened the NSCDC’s mandate.

His service has earned him commendations and awards, including:

Legislative Writers Forum Award, National Assembly, Abuja.

Letter of Commendation from former CG Dr. Ade Abolurin.

NSCDC Arms Squad Unit Award of Commendation.

Achievements in 100 Days

Since assuming duty as the Jigawa State Commandant, Commandant Bodinga has brought renewed energy, innovation, and results-oriented leadership to the Command. In his first 100 days, the following notable achievements have been recorded:

Enhanced night patrol within the State Capital and Local Government Areas where crimes are predominant, ensuring better visibility and deterrence against criminal activities.

Beautification and painting of the State Command Headquarters.

Multiple arrests of high-profile suspects, with recovery of stolen items.

Creation of Takur Site Division to expand security coverage.

Strengthened collaboration to protect critical national infrastructure.

Swift crackdown on crimes shortly after assumption of office.

Secured three operational motorcycles from the State Government to enhance mobility and boost operations, with a promise to receive operational vehicles.

Partnership with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to protect electricity installations.

Proactive festive security development to ensure peaceful celebrations.

Strengthened inter-agency collaboration to combat illegal mining.

Renovation of Hadejia Divisional Office.

Renovation of Sara Outpost, including the construction of two new offices and toilet facilities.

Enhanced protection of mosques and churches during worship.

Capacity building and training workshops on cybercrime knowledge.

Arrest of fraudsters, popularly known as ‘Yan-Dala’, who were terrorising Birnin-Kudu and its environs, through a joint operation with other sister security agencies in the State.

Enhanced vigilance in schools to ensure the safety and security of pupils, most notably at Dutse Model Secondary School and the School of Health Technology, Jahun, where personnel were deployed to provide security.

A Leader Beyond the Uniform

Beyond his official duties, Commandant Bodinga is a family man, happily married and blessed with children. His hobbies; parade and drill, reading, and traveling reflect his discipline, love for learning, and broad-minded worldview.

Commandant Bala Bawa Bodinga’s first 100 days as the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Jigawa State, have been marked by reforms, operational success, transformational leadership and a renewed sense of purpose for the Corps. His leadership has strengthened community confidence, enhanced collaboration with other security agencies, and positioned the Jigawa State Command as a model of efficiency and service delivery.

As he continues to serve, it is clear that his tenure will leave a lasting legacy of security, professionalism, and excellence in Jigawa.
