The Federal Government has approved the appointment of Olumode Samuel Adeyemi as the new Controller of the Federal Fire Service (FFS).
Adeyemi, a seasoned fire safety professional with decades of experience in disaster management, takes over at a time when the Service faces mounting challenges, including poor public perception, inadequate funding, dilapidated infrastructure, and low response capacity to fire outbreaks across the country.
The appointment, announced in Abuja, is part of the Federal Government’s renewed effort to reform and reposition the Fire Service to meet international standards and provide stronger protection for lives and property.
Adeyemi is expected to bring his wealth of expertise in fire prevention, emergency response, and institutional reform to overhaul the Service. He will also be tasked with tackling long-standing issues such as insufficient firefighting equipment, training gaps, and the low morale of personnel.
Stakeholders in the safety and emergency management sector have welcomed the appointment, describing it as a strategic move to revamp an agency that has suffered years of neglect.
Adeyemi, in his first reaction, pledged to pursue reforms that would transform the Service into a modern, technology-driven institution capable of effectively responding to emergencies nationwide.
