Experts Commend ACC John Onoja Attah’s Leadership in Fight Against Illegal Mining
Industry experts have commended Assistant Commandant of Corps (ACC) John Onoja Attah, Commander of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Mining Marshals, for his outstanding leadership in the fight against illegal mining and the protection of Nigeria’s vast solid mineral resources.
Among those who praised the Mining Marshals Commander is Prof. Olusegun Omoniyi Ige of the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency (NGSA), who noted that the activities of the specialised unit have contributed significantly to restoring order, enhancing regulatory compliance and promoting responsible mining practices across the country.
The commendation follows a series of successful enforcement operations carried out by the Mining Marshals under Attah’s leadership. The operations are aimed at curbing illegal mining activities, protecting licensed operators and supporting the Federal Government’s efforts to reposition the solid minerals sector as a key driver of economic growth and national development.
Stakeholders observed that the activities of the Mining Marshals have strengthened security around mining sites, reduced the unlawful exploitation of mineral resources and boosted investor confidence in the sector. They added that the unit’s interventions have reinforced adherence to mining regulations and helped create a more transparent and accountable operating environment.
The experts expressed confidence that sustained collaboration among the NSCDC, regulatory agencies and industry operators would further consolidate the gains already recorded in the sector. They urged continued support for the Mining Marshals, describing ACC John Onoja Attah’s leadership as pivotal to the Federal Government’s drive to sanitise the mining industry, safeguard national assets and maximise the sector’s contribution to the nation’s economy.
