Federal Government Appoints New Controller of Federal Fire Service, Samuel Adeyemi

The Federal Government has approved the appointment of Olumode Samuel Adeyemi as the new Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS). His appointment, which took effect on August 14, 2025, was confirmed by the Ministry of Interior following the retirement of his predecessor, Jaji Abdulganiyu.

Adeyemi, who previously served as a Deputy Controller-General in charge of administration, brings decades of professional experience in fire safety management, rescue operations, and institutional reforms.

At his decoration ceremony in Abuja, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, charged the new fire chief to reposition the Service, restore public confidence, and deepen reforms to meet modern emergency standards.

The Minister emphasized that Adeyemi’s leadership must focus on improving response times, curbing procurement controversies, and strengthening collaboration with states and local governments to tackle recurrent fire disasters across the country.

Adeyemi pledged loyalty to the Federal Government and promised to prioritize transparency, operational efficiency, and community fire prevention campaigns.

The Federal Fire Service has, in recent years, faced mounting criticism over procurement irregularities, inadequate hydrant systems, and delayed responses to major market and urban fires, particularly in Lagos and other densely populated cities. Analysts believe Adeyemi’s appointment signals a renewed effort by the government to reform and modernize the agency.
