IGP Egbetokun Meets Alaafin, Southwest Monarchs, Reaffirms Police-Traditional Rulers Partnership

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Wednesday received a delegation of prominent traditional rulers from the Southwest, led by the Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The visit, detailed in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police Olumuyiwa Adejobi, also included the Ataoja of Osogbo, the Olu of Ilaro, the Oloro of Oro, the Olusin of Ijora-Isin, and Prince Akeem Adeyemi, a member of the House of Representatives. Federal lawmakers and the Coordinating Deputy Inspector-General of Police for the Southwest, Adebowale William, were also part of the entourage.

During the meeting, IGP Egbetokun underscored the critical role traditional institutions play in maintaining security and peace at the grassroots and across the nation. He pledged stronger collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and royal institutions to promote inclusivity, peace, and sustainable development.

The IGP also hosted the Ambassador-Designate of the Republic of Poland, Michal Cygan, alongside senior representatives of W-B Group, a leading Polish security solutions provider. Discussions centred on developing an integrated communication platform to enhance the Nigeria Police Force’s ICT capabilities, in line with the IGP’s vision for a technology-driven, intelligence-led approach to policing.

Reaffirming his leadership’s commitment, Egbetokun said the Nigeria Police Force would continue working closely with stakeholders, partners, and traditional rulers to build a professional, service-oriented, rule-of-law compliant, and proactive policing system.
