Army Probes Viral Checkpoint Incident in Enugu, Promises Transparency

The 82 Division of the Nigerian Army has opened an investigation into a recent incident involving its personnel and civilians along the Nsukka–Igbo Eze South Road in Enugu State.

The incident, which went viral on social media, reportedly occurred during a routine checkpoint operation. In a statement issued yesterday, the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations for the Division, Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, confirmed that the encounter took place during a standard security check.

Ayeni noted that while such checks are vital for maintaining public safety, the Nigerian Army takes all allegations of misconduct by its personnel very seriously. He said the Division has commenced a thorough investigation to establish the facts, adding that the findings will be made public once concluded.

“If the personnel involved are found guilty, appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken in accordance with military regulations,” he assured.

The spokesperson reaffirmed the Division’s commitment to professionalism, strict adherence to the Rules of Engagement, and compliance with the Nigerian Army’s Code of Conduct.

“The 82 Division remains dedicated to transparency and accountability in all its operations to foster positive civil–military relations. We appreciate the vigilance of the public and the role of the media in drawing attention to such matters,” Ayeni said.
