Babanla, a community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, has been placed under a tight security lockdown following violent activities by suspected armed criminals.
According to a statement issued on Friday by Rafiu Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the criminals reportedly targeted a police station, attempted to loot several grocery shops, and made moves on a hotel before being repelled by a joint team of security forces and courageous members of the community.
The Kwara State Government praised the Nigerian Army, the police, and local residents for their swift and coordinated response. Governor AbdulRazaq, who has been in constant communication with security commanders and the local vigilante network, has ordered a sustained security lockdown of the area to neutralise the threat and restore calm.
“While further briefings are awaited, the Governor reassures the public that concerted efforts, in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser, are ongoing to rid the area of criminal elements,” the statement read.
The Governor also appealed for maximum public cooperation and urged residents to remain calm while security operations continue in the affected axis.
