Soldier Killed, Two Injured in Bandit Ambush on Army APC in Katsina

A Nigerian soldier was killed and two others critically injured on Wednesday when suspected bandits ambushed an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) in Yadi Forest, near Machika village, Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The attack occurred at about 2:32 p.m. during a routine patrol, after the military vehicle reportedly broke down due to a mechanical fault.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the assailants seized the opportunity to launch a coordinated assault on the stranded troops. “One soldier was fatally shot, while two others sustained life-threatening injuries. The wounded personnel were promptly evacuated for emergency medical treatment,” a source confirmed.

In swift retaliation, the Nigerian Air Force deployed a fighter jet to provide aerial cover, while ground forces under Operation FANSAN YANMA commenced a pursuit of the attackers through the forest.

Security operations in the area remain ongoing as the military intensifies efforts to track down and neutralise those behind the deadly ambush.
