Bayelsa Militant Camp Busted as Navy Seizes Heavy Weaponry, Arrests Key Suspect

A carefully coordinated military operation on June 27, 2025, led by operatives of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS SOROH), has resulted in the
successful dismantling of a notorious militant hideout in Peremabiri community, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

During the raid, a key suspect identified as Daniel Damigo was arrested while in possession of an HK General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) and a significant quantity of ammunition. The Navy confirmed that the camp had been under surveillance following credible intelligence suggesting the militants were involved in activities threatening public peace and national security.

The operation, according to the Commander of NNS SOROH, Commodore Omobamidele Akinbami, was executed with surgical precision and zero collateral damage. Speaking while handing over the suspect to operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), Akinbami
commended the professionalism of his personnel and highlighted the role of Labrador Security Services in providing ground support and
coordination.

“Our action was swift and based on actionable intelligence. The recovered weapon and ammunition are currently undergoing forensic
analysis to determine any connection with prior criminal acts,” he said.

He emphasized that the successful raid was part of ongoing efforts to combat threats to national security and ensure the safety of citizens
in the region.

In a separate incident, Commodore Akinbami disclosed that two suspected cultists were apprehended in Yenagoa, the state capital,
within the past week. They were found in possession of a locally made pistol and multiple rounds of ammunition.

The suspects have been transferred to the police anti-cultism task force for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The Nigerian Navy reiterated its commitment to maintaining maritime and internal security and called on citizens to report suspicious
activities in their communities.
