DSS Director-General Adeola Ajayi Honoured with NUJ Man of the Year Award

The Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Ajayi, has been honoured with the prestigious Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Man of the Year Award in recognition of his efforts to strengthen collaboration between the media and security agencies, as well as his commitment to transparency and national security.
The award was presented in acknowledgment of Ajayi’s leadership in fostering a more constructive relationship between the DSS and media practitioners across the country. Under his stewardship, the Service has been credited with promoting greater engagement with journalists and enhancing public understanding of security-related issues.
Speaking at the award ceremony, NUJ officials commended the DSS Director-General for encouraging open communication and professional interaction between security institutions and the press. They noted that his approach has contributed to building trust and improving information sharing in matters affecting national security.
Ajayi dedicated the honour to officers and personnel of the DSS, describing the recognition as a testament to their dedication, professionalism, and sacrifices in safeguarding the nation. He reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity and ensuring the safety of its citizens.
The DSS boss also stressed the importance of responsible journalism in addressing contemporary security challenges, noting that accurate and balanced reporting plays a critical role in promoting peace, stability, and national cohesion. He urged media practitioners to continue partnering with security agencies in the collective interest of the country.
Observers described the award as a reflection of the growing recognition of the need for stronger cooperation between the media and security institutions. They noted that such collaboration is essential in combating misinformation, enhancing public awareness, and supporting efforts to tackle emerging security threats.
The honour further underscores the increasing emphasis on dialogue, mutual respect, and institutional cooperation as key elements in advancing national security objectives and strengthening democratic governance in Nigeria.
