Nigerian Legion Presents 62nd Anniversary Souvenirs to Defence Ministers

The Nigerian Legion has presented its 62nd Anniversary commemorative souvenirs to the Minister of Defence, , and the Minister of State for Defence, , during a ceremony held in Abuja.

Presenting the souvenirs, the National Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Ms Grace Morenike Henry, expressed appreciation to the Defence Minister for his leadership, continued partnership, and unwavering support for the welfare and development of military veterans, widows, and the families of fallen heroes. She commended the Ministry’s commitment to promoting the well-being, integration, and recognition of ex-servicemen and women who have served the nation with distinction.

Ms Henry noted that the 62nd Anniversary celebration provides an opportunity to honour the sacrifices of veterans and to draw attention to the need for sustained support for those who have dedicated their lives to the defence of Nigeria. She emphasized that the Nigerian Legion remains committed to advancing the interests of veterans and strengthening their contributions to national development.

The Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Matawalle, joined the Minister of Defence in receiving the commemorative souvenirs from the Nigerian Legion leadership. The presentation served not only as a gesture of appreciation but also as a reaffirmation of the enduring relationship between the Armed Forces community and the Federal Government.

Speaking during the event, the Defence Ministers reiterated the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of veterans and supporting initiatives aimed at enhancing their quality of life. They acknowledged the invaluable contributions of retired military personnel to national security and pledged continued collaboration with the Nigerian Legion.

Accompanying the National Chairman during the presentation were Major General GS Abdullahi (rtd) and Brigadier General BET Bello (rtd), Consultant to the Nigerian Legion, alongside other senior members of the organisation.
