AudiThe Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) is set to receive a major institutional honour at the 2026 People’s Security Monitor (PSM) Security Conference and Awards Summit, scheduled to take place in Abuja, in recognition of its expanding strategic role in safeguarding critical national assets and supporting Nigeria’s economic stability.
According to the organisers, the NSCDC was selected for the institutional award in acknowledgement of its sustained operational impact in protecting critical infrastructure, combating illegal mining activities, and strengthening internal security architecture that underpins national economic resilience. The Corps’ interventions, particularly through specialised formations such as the Mining Marshals, have been described as pivotal in reducing revenue losses and enhancing government control over strategic mineral resources.
The organisers further commended the leadership of the Commandant General, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, describing his tenure as transformative in repositioning the Corps into a more intelligence-driven, professionally coordinated, and economically relevant security agency. His leadership was credited with strengthening inter-agency collaboration, expanding operational capacity, and aligning the Corps’ mandate with national development priorities.
Under Professor Audi’s stewardship, the NSCDC has increasingly been recognised for its contribution to economic stabilisation through the protection of oil installations, solid mineral sites, and other critical national assets. The Corps’ proactive deployment strategies and enforcement operations have been instrumental in curbing sabotage, illegal exploitation of resources, and activities that undermine national revenue generation.
Stakeholders at the summit are expected to highlight the Corps’ role in improving investor confidence within the extractive sector, particularly by ensuring safer operational environments for legitimate mining and industrial activities. The NSCDC’s community engagement strategies and conflict prevention mechanisms have also been acknowledged as key factors in sustaining peace in resource-rich areas.
The 2026 PSM Security Conference and Awards Summit will also feature high-level participation from government officials, security chiefs, policymakers, traditional rulers, diplomats, and development experts. It is scheduled for Thursday, June 4, 2026, at 10:00am at the Auditorium of the Nigeria National Merit Award House, Maitama, Abuja, with General Christopher Musa (Rtd), Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, expected to serve as chief guest speaker.
Organisers stated that the event will include policy discussions on national security and economic stability, goodwill messages, presentation of strategic publications, and the conferment of awards on individuals and institutions that have demonstrated exceptional commitment to peace, security, and national development.
