The Delta State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps on Thursday received the Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, during a historic courtesy visit to the Command Headquarters in Asaba.
The visit marked a significant moment in the history of the Command, as CP Yemi Oyeniyi became the first Commissioner of Police to officially visit the headquarters of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, a development widely described as symbolic of the growing collaboration among security agencies in Delta State.
Upon arrival at about 1308hrs, the Commissioner of Police was received with a Guard of Honour, which he inspected before being warmly welcomed by the State Commandant, Chinedu F. Ibo. The Commandant thereafter introduced the visiting Police Commissioner to senior officers of the Command.
During a closed door strategic meeting involving senior officers from both agencies, CP Oyeniyi expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded to him, describing it as a reflection of unity, mutual respect, and institutional cooperation between the Police and the NSCDC.
The Police Commissioner stated that the Nigeria Police Force under his leadership in Delta State would continue to strengthen the existing synergy with the NSCDC and other sister security agencies, stressing that no single agency can effectively tackle the present security challenges alone.
He further noted that the evolving nature of insecurity across the country requires coordinated operations, intelligence sharing, professionalism, and a unified security approach aimed at combating crime and criminality more effectively.
CP Oyeniyi explained that his visit was intended to reinforce a deeper operational partnership with the NSCDC as a critical stakeholder in Nigeria’s internal security architecture, adding that stronger collaboration among security agencies remains essential to maintaining peace and public safety in Delta State.
Responding, Commandant Chinedu acknowledged the strategic importance of inter agency cooperation, emphasising that effective security management can only be achieved through collaboration, coordination, and collective responsibility among all security stakeholders.
He stated that the Delta State Command of the Corps would continue to work closely with the Police and other sister agencies in line with the leadership philosophy of the Commandant General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, which promotes professionalism, synergy, and proactive security engagement nationwide.
The State Commandant also assured the Commissioner of Police of the Command’s continuous support for the Nigeria Police Force in its role as the lead agency in internal security operations, while reaffirming the Corps’ commitment to intelligence driven operations and protection of critical national assets and infrastructure across the state.
The visit further underscored the shared resolve of both agencies to foster stronger institutional relationships capable of enhancing public confidence, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring a safer environment for residents of Delta State.
