The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully airlifted the first batch of Nigerian troops deploying under the Nigerian Contingent 5 (NIGCOY 5) to the ECOWAS Stabilisation Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau (ESSMGB), reinforcing Nigeria’s longstanding commitment to regional peace, security and stability in West Africa.

The contingent, comprising 86 military personnel, departed Abuja aboard a NAF C-130 Hercules aircraft and is expected to join ongoing peace support operations in Guinea-Bissau under the auspices of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The deployment underscores Nigeria’s continued leadership role in promoting peace and democratic governance within the West African sub-region. It also reflects the country’s unwavering support for collective security initiatives aimed at preventing conflict and fostering stability among ECOWAS member states.

The operation further demonstrates the Nigerian Air Force’s robust strategic airlift capability and its critical role in supporting both national and multinational military missions. By providing timely and efficient transportation for personnel and equipment, the NAF continues to enhance the operational readiness of Nigerian forces participating in peacekeeping and stabilisation efforts across the continent.
