The Nasarawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has reaffirmed its commitment to the protection of railway infrastructure following a courtesy visit by the North Central District Manager of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Wilson Obada, to the Command Headquarters in Lafia.
The District Manager was received by the State Commandant, Brah Samson Umoru, during a meeting focused on strengthening collaboration and enhancing operational cooperation between both organisations in the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure, particularly railway facilities.
Speaking during the visit, Mr. Obada commended the NSCDC in Nasarawa State for its sustained efforts in safeguarding public infrastructure and maintaining security around railway installations across the state and the North Central region.
He noted that the role of the Corps in protecting railway assets remains critical to the safety, sustainability, and uninterrupted operation of rail transport services, especially at a time when incidents of vandalism and theft continue to pose serious threats to national infrastructure.
The District Manager further emphasised the need for stronger inter agency cooperation, intelligence sharing, and coordinated operations between the Nigerian Railway Corporation and the NSCDC in tackling criminal activities affecting railway facilities.
Responding, Commandant Brah Samson Umoru appreciated the visit and reiterated the commitment of the Corps to its statutory responsibility of protecting critical national assets and infrastructure across Nasarawa State.
The Commandant acknowledged the persistent challenge of railway vandalism within the state, assuring that the Command would not relent in its efforts to combat individuals and groups involved in the destruction and theft of railway materials and installations.
According to him, the Command has continued to intensify surveillance, strategic deployment of personnel, and intelligence driven operations aimed at securing railway corridors and other sensitive infrastructure within the state.
He further stressed that the NSCDC would continue to adopt modern security strategies and strengthen collaboration with relevant stakeholders to ensure the protection of railway infrastructure and guarantee safer transportation services for the public.
The meeting concluded with both organisations expressing a shared commitment to deepening cooperation, improving operational coordination, and addressing security challenges threatening railway operations in Nasarawa State and the wider North Central region.
