The Taraba State Police Command wishes to inform the public of recent developments in the security situation across the state, as well as key operational successes recorded under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Morkwap S. Dongshal, psc(+).
Upon assumption of duty, the Commissioner of Police immediately intensified visibility policing across major towns and highways. This proactive measure is aimed at deterring criminal activities and ensuring that residents carry out their lawful activities without fear.
As part of efforts to assess the security situation firsthand, the CP conducted on-the-spot assessments of volatile areas and flashpoints in Takum and Donga Local Government Areas. During his visit to Takum LGA, he was received by police formations and subsequently visited Kofai Ahmadu and Chanchanji communities, where he engaged with traditional rulers, community elders, youth leaders, and other stakeholders. The engagement focused on gathering firsthand information on security challenges and strengthening collaboration between the police and the community to achieve lasting peace.
The Commissioner of Police also visited Donga LGA, including Tse Kwe Tor Damisa, the site where a team of police officers was ambushed by suspected militia members, resulting in the tragic killing of three officers and the theft of their service rifles.
In a major operational breakthrough, the Command has successfully tracked and arrested two suspects linked to the attack. The suspects, Suleman Abdullahi (30) and Idris Kauri (33), both from Akente Village in Donga LGA, were apprehended, and all three stolen service rifles have been recovered. The suspects are currently in custody and will be charged in court, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other accomplices still at large.
In a separate operation, officers attached to the Zing Divisional Police Headquarters, while conducting stop-and-search duties at Yonko, intercepted two suspects—Torme Terzugwe (39) of Kwande LGA, Benue State, and Job David (35) of Toungo LGA, Adamawa State. The suspects, who were riding an unregistered motorcycle en route to Ganye LGA in Adamawa State, were found in possession of 304 rounds of live ammunition. Investigations are ongoing.
The Commissioner of Police reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to rid the state of criminal elements. He emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration with community leaders, youth groups, and other stakeholders in strengthening community policing and intelligence gathering.
Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing timely and credible information. The Command reiterates its guiding principle: “If you see something, say something.”
The Taraba State Police Command remains committed to professionalism, respect for human rights, and adherence to the rule of law in all its operations, in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc, NPM.
The Command appreciates the media and the general public for their continued support and cooperation in maintaining peace and security across the state.
